Meet our team: Elena Kazakina, Ph.D.

Elena Kazakina, Ph.D., who holds a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University, has been a psychologist at Comprehensive Sleep Disorders Institute since it originated in 2003. Dr. Kazakina also serves as a Psychology Consultant for the Metropolitan Jewish Health System, Brooklyn, New York. She is licensed in New York and in New Jersey where she is currently in private practice. Prior to this, Dr. Kazakina was on staff at the Department of Behavioral Health and Psychiatry at Trinitas Hospital, NJ for 6 years. Her responsibilities included individual and group psychotherapy, supervision of psychology interns, and staff training.

Dr. Kazakina earned her doctorate from Columbia University. She completed her psychological internship training at the Department of Psychiatry of Maimonides Hospital. Her Master's degree in developmental psychology was obtained from the University of St. Petersburg, Russia.

Dr. Kazakina specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of insomnia, with the emphasis on adult and late life insomnia. Her extensive clinical, teaching and research experience allowed her to develop a unique integrated approach combining cognitive-behavioral, supportive and psychodynamic interventions in psychological treatment of insomnia.

She is a member of the American Psychological Association, New Jersey Psychological Association, and New Jersey Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists. She is involved with rapidly growing special interest group of health psychologists who carefully review mind-body connection under the impact of stress and illness.
